The Challenge

The Aussies — Surf Life Saving Australia's national championship carnival — generates thousands of competition results across hundreds of events over a 9-day period. SLSA needed a system that could archive years of historical data, handle real-time updates during the carnival, and remain stable under heavy traffic loads from competitors, clubs, and the public.

The Solution

Nano Solutions built the SLSA Results platform, a high-performance archive and real-time results system designed for both historical browsing and live event coverage.

Decommissioned in June 2026

Surf Life Saving retired the standalone results site in June 2026, and results.sls.com.au now redirects to the main SLS website.

It had been publicly available since at least early 2013. That is more than a decade of carnival seasons — every Aussies in that period — served by the same platform, through successive framework upgrades and without a migration off it. Then it was stood down cleanly when Surf Life Saving decided the function belonged elsewhere.

We would rather show that than quietly delete the page. Software that runs for thirteen years and is retired on the client's terms is the outcome we are actually selling; a portfolio of only living products tells you nothing about what happens after launch.

Technology

Built for high-traffic performance with optimised database queries, caching strategies, and a clean drill-down interface. The system handles real-time data ingestion during live events while serving thousands of concurrent users browsing historical archives.
