Nano Solutions hosts, maintains and improves Drupal websites for Australian organisations and government. We support Drupal 11 and other currently maintained releases, plan upgrades for older estates such as Drupal 10, provide Australian hosting options and test that backups can be restored.

Managed Drupal without split responsibility

An important Drupal website rarely operates alone. It may publish public information, handle traffic peaks and exchange data with identity, membership, CRM or finance systems. When separate suppliers own the hosting, application and integrations, it can be difficult to establish who should fix a problem.

Nano can take responsibility for the hosting, Drupal application, custom functionality and connected systems under one service arrangement. The client retains ownership of its code, data, accounts and documentation.

What managed Drupal hosting includes

  • Drupal 11 and supported-release hosting with Australian data-residency options.
  • Upgrade planning for older Drupal estates before they fall out of security support.
  • Security updates and maintenance tested before release.
  • Development, testing and production environments so changes do not begin on the live website.
  • 24/7 automated monitoring with agreed support and escalation targets.
  • Backups and tested recovery based on the importance of each website.
  • Performance planning for campaigns, enrolment periods, public events and other traffic peaks.
  • Custom Drupal development when the website needs more than off-the-shelf functionality.
  • Business-system integration with member portals, identity providers, CRMs, finance platforms and APIs.
  • Clear monthly reporting covering availability, incidents, updates, security and planned improvements.
  • No lock-in — the client owns its code, data and documentation.

Proven through a decade with Surf Life Saving Australia

In 2013, Surf Life Saving Australia engaged Nano to build and host its national Drupal website. We remained responsible for its hosting, releases, security maintenance and ongoing development through 2023.

We wrote custom Drupal functionality that brought BeachSafe information and live competition results into the website. We then extended the platform to support a member and club store that reused existing account and organisation information.

Nano then connected the store to Oracle NetSuite. Online orders could move into SLSA's finance and fulfilment workflow without staff manually re-entering the same information. The result was a smoother member experience, cleaner order data and less administrative handling.

The ten-year engagement shows what long-term ownership looks like: building the original website, adding new services, maintaining its security and staying responsible after launch.

How a Drupal takeover works

We begin by reviewing the website, hosting, Drupal and PHP versions, custom functionality, integrations, traffic patterns, security position and backup arrangements. We then build and test the target environment using a copy of the site before planning the production move.

The cutover is rehearsed, documented and has an agreed rollback path. After launch, we monitor the platform closely and provide a prioritised record of inherited risks and recommended work.

Security updates without avoidable disruption

Drupal security updates need to move quickly, but changing a live website without testing creates a different risk. Nano checks whether the site is affected, tests the update away from production, confirms important user journeys still work, and releases it through an agreed change process with a rollback path.

Urgent vulnerabilities follow an agreed emergency process. Routine updates move through the normal testing and approval path.

Support and recovery you can measure

Each managed Drupal service has a written schedule covering support hours, incident priorities, response targets, availability, maintenance windows, backups and recovery. Automated monitoring runs continuously; staffed after-hours response is agreed separately so the service promise remains clear.

Backups are only useful if they can be restored. Recovery tests are scheduled, documented and reported against the recovery targets agreed for the website.

You retain control of the website

The client owns its source code, data, configuration and documentation. Repositories and cloud accounts can remain under client control. We maintain the deployment and operating records another capable Drupal team would need if the service is transferred.

Drupal support for WA Government

Nano Solutions is a Fremantle-based WA Government CUAICTS2021 ICT panel supplier (Contractor #225). We can provide government buyers with a Drupal transition plan, proposed service levels, security and data-residency information, relevant project evidence and referees.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Nano Solutions have direct Drupal experience?

Yes. Nano developed, hosted and maintained Surf Life Saving Australia's national Drupal website from 2013 to 2023. We wrote the custom functionality that connected BeachSafe, live results, member accounts, online ordering and Oracle NetSuite.

Which Drupal versions do you support?

We support Drupal 11 and other currently maintained Drupal releases. For a Drupal 10 or older estate, we first assess the custom code, modules and integrations, then agree an upgrade path before accepting ongoing operational responsibility.

How do you handle Drupal security updates?

We monitor Drupal security notices, determine whether each website is affected, test the update away from production and release it through an agreed approval and rollback process. Urgent risks follow the emergency process defined in the service schedule.

Can Nano take over Drupal sites from another hosting provider?

Yes. We review the websites, hosting, custom functionality, integrations, data, domains, certificates, monitoring, backups and current risks. We test the target environment and rehearse the migration and rollback before the production cutover.

Can Drupal data remain in Australia?

Yes. We can deploy into Australian-region public cloud, private cloud or client-controlled infrastructure. The agreed architecture documents where production data, backups, logs and support access reside.

Do you provide 24/7 Drupal support?

Automated 24/7 monitoring is available. Staffed after-hours response and acknowledgement targets are agreed per service tier and workload. We state these separately so monitoring is not presented as staffed response coverage.

What backup and disaster-recovery targets do you offer?

RPO and RTO are selected per site and documented in the service schedule. Backups are encrypted and retained according to the workload, and restoration is tested on a defined schedule. Multi-site and mission-critical estates can add cross-region or alternate-environment recovery.

Will we own the Drupal code and infrastructure?

Yes. The client owns its source code, configuration, infrastructure definitions and data. Repositories can sit in the client's tenancy, and Nano provides the artefacts, documentation and knowledge transfer required for transition to another supplier.
